We're Going To Talk About How Good Mindy Project Was Last Night

And I mean "talk" as in please talk back, because I'm looking for a conversation. In the comments, at a bar, on twitter, whatever. Please let's talk about it!!

Last night was Goofy Thursday on Fox - new episodes of New Girl and Mindy Project NOT on Tuesday - and it bumped my must-see tv lineup to a record-breaking 6 new episodes to watch. No wait, that used to happen all the time when it was 30 Rock, Community, Parks & Rec, The Office, Archer, and Jersey Shore. Look, however much tv I watch, the point remains: The Mindy Project was great last night.

 

 

"Pretty Man" was Mindy's bastard fantasy of Pretty Woman, in which she meets a musically talented male prostitute (played by Josh Meyers) and tries to make him respectable, obviously only for her own sake. She drags him to a party at Danny's apartment to show how unhurt she is about not being invited in the first place. She takes him to a snotty boutique in the hopes that she'll get to cause a scene. If I had to explain game to someone, I'd probably be like "You know Pretty Woman? What if Mindy were doing Pretty Woman? How would she do the boutique thing and the necklace box thing and this and that and blah blah blah?" And then the other person would get it immediately.

There were like 300 great things going on in the episode last night:

a) Mindy scrapes deodorant out of her empty stick to use before going to da clubs.

b) When Mindy gets back to the office after hearing she wasn't invited to Danny's party, she throws her purse and coat SO HARD at Betsy's face without even looking at her. Haha.

c) Whenever Josh Meyers starts playing a song at Danny's party, Mindy jumps onto the piano and tries to just lounge there, beautifully. She's not even singing. And every time, Danny's like "GET OFF, DUMMY! THAT'S EXPENSIVE!" (see above gif)

d) Morgan brings sloppy hot wings and tosses them to people in Danny's super fancy apartment.

e) When Josh Meyers introduces himself with "I'm Adam," it sounds more like "Madam," as in, "I am a prostitute, like one with a madam."

f) It turns out Danny didn't invite Mindy to the party because he saw her kissing Dr. Mumblecore a few episodes back. Now that's a nuanced payoff!

g) Morgan: "I'm not paying $10 to check a $5 coat!"

h) Dikembe: "Can I join you at the party?" Mindy: "No Dikembe, you can't"

i) Is this actress's name "Best Friend Who Dates Main Person's Should-Be Boyfriend?"

j) Danny can barely play piano in front of people.

k) MINDY AND DANNY IN THE BATHROOM IS PRETTY GREAT

l) Josh Meyers has a really loud "I am what I am and I'm not ashamed!" moment, proudly telling everyone that Mindy brought a prostitute to a house party.

m) Mindy: "Alleged prostitute. Look at the Constitution for once in your life."

n) Morgan cheers Mindy up on the subway after the party by doing Danny impressions. I'd do a gif but they don't have sound. But by now you're probably just watching the episode, so you'll hear it at the end.

All I'm trying to say is that I thought this one was a keeper. Maybe you disagree, maybe you REALLY AGREE BIG TIME. If this is what the show's like on Thursdays, maybe Fox should give NBC some competition.
